Station Workflow

Tutorial 07 - SimPatient Station Workflow

Station Workflow Design Overview

1. Patient Pool Control

User identifies a patient to administer medication to and selects him or her which launches a scan verify dialog for patients.

2. Scan Verify Patient

Contains a textbox which maintains focus to receive the input from a patient barcode label scan. A big red text block will say something like ready for scan, and if the scan succeeds, the text block will turn green and display patient verified, and close after a moment. If it fails, it will remain red, display patient mismatch, the return to the Patient Pool Control. If it succeeds, the Patient Viewer is launched.

3. Patient Viewer

Displays the patient's information as well as the medications that need to be administered. The user can then identify a medication to be administered and select it which launches a scan verify dialog for medication. As opposed to the Patient Editor, the Patient Viewer will be a control that appears directly in the main window dock with a Cancel button that allows the user to back out to the Patient Pool.

4. Scan Verify Medication

Contains a textbox with maintains focus to receive the input from a medication barcode label scan. A big red text block will say something like ready for scan, and if the scan succeeds, the text block will turn green and display medication verified, and close after a moment. If it fails, if will remains red, display medication mismatch then return to the Patient Viewer.

5. Medication Off-Schedule

In the event medication is administered outside of its time window this provides a means to resolve this problem. A set of reasons in the form of radio buttons are provided, if other is selected as the reason, the notes textbox becomes a required field, but is otherwise optional.

6. Medication Reconciliation

Resolves the details of medication administration. Initials of the user are entered as well as an injection site if the medication route was an injection, and optional notes.

7. Return to Patient Viewer

After this process is complete, control focus returns to the Patient Viewer. If there are no more medications to administer, the Patient viewer can be closed, returning to the Patient Pool Control which is the root of the Station Workflow.
